A local speciality

Palm nut oil gets a lot of bad press but it's part of daily life here in the south of Togo.
Palm (not the same kind that you get coconuts from) is a big crop down here and for a good reason. The nuts from the tree can be used to make palm but oil, boiled up as part of a delicious sauce with fufu (my favorite sauce) or the palm tree can be pulled up and used to make palm wine or sodabi (a local liquor equally good for getting drunk as for removing paint).

My neighbors consented to letting me take a photo as they got to work producing the palm oil.
